The Westonbirt 1st lacrosse team put on a great display at the South West Rally tournament on Saturday, showing resilience, skill, and determination despite nursing some injuries amongst the players. Their campaign began with a thrilling comeback against Downhouse, where they fought back from 3-1 down to secure a 3-3 draw. This set the tone for a strong run, which included a commanding 4-1 victory over Heathfield and a remarkable 4-2 win against Godolphin after trailing 2-0 early on.

Momentum continued to build as the team battled to a hard-fought 2-2 draw against CLC and followed up with a decisive 5-3 win over Calne placing them at the top of their section and securing their place in the Championship Pool.

In back-to-back draws against Queen Anne’s (2-2) and St Helen's and St Katharine's (2-2), Westonbirt showcased their defensive prowess and teamwork.

In a crucial rematch against Godolphin, Westonbirt came up just short, missing out on the semi-finals by the slimmest of margins. Despite this, the players left everything on the field and can be proud of their efforts.

The day’s standout performers, Ophelia D and Holly W, were instrumental in the team’s success, providing some great hustle and awesome goals. Westonbirt’s 1st team demonstrated their potential, grit, and collective spirit, setting a strong foundation for future tournaments.
