In a thrilling encounter against St Mary’s Calne, the Westonbirt 1st lacrosse team claimed a hard-fought 8-7 victory in what was truly a nail-biter from start to finish. The game was packed with intensity, twists, and incredible resilience from both sides.
Westonbirt started strong, quickly pulling ahead with two early goals, establishing a 2-0 lead and setting a confident tone. St Mary’s Calne, however, was quick to respond, leveling the score at 2-2 in a display of determination. The first half continued with back-and-forth momentum, as Westonbirt surged again to lead 4-2, only for Calne to close the gap.
Going into the second half, Westonbirt managed to stretch the lead to 7-4, and it seemed they had control. But Calne fought back with remarkable tenacity, clawing their way back to even the score at 7-7.
With just 45 seconds left, Sophie Ellis stepped up, showing incredible composure under pressure, and slotted the ball into the net, securing the win at 8-7 for Westonbirt.
