Westonbirt had to go strong from the get go, we knew St Marys were a good team and having drawn with them previously, we knew what we needed to achieve and we needed to keep composure.
Starting in the first quarter Westonbirt were strong off the draw, Mary Jackson winning it continuously, taking the ball into the attack and slowing down deciding what to do as an attacking team from our circle formation. A few set plays were made which brought our score to 2-1 to Westonbirt to start.
Into the next half the score was 4-3 to St Mary's Calne, we had on sub which then was not feeling well so we moved some positions around to keep the energy high. A great feed was made in the attack from Mary Pope to Amelia B scoring our fourth goal.
Going into the fourth quarter St Mary's Calne were 6-3 up and unfortunately with 10 minutes remaining Westonbirt started to panic in the attack and some errors were made meaning St Marys Calne gained possession and our defence had to work hard. Lily O'brien made some great knockdowns in defence as well as Misha and a few others, Purdey some great saves however St Marys Calne were intercepting on the clear and going straight to goal.
The score line ended up being 7-4 to St Mary's Calne but this does not necessarily reflect how much of a fight the girls made today and the hard work they put on the pitch, from start to finish it was a great effort from both teams, looking forward to our next match.
