This past week, our U12 and U13 teams embarked on an exciting four-day tour in the Midlands, where they enjoyed a professional rugby experience, including a match watched between Leicester Tigers and Gloucester. The players also participated in a valuable training session led by Leicester Tigers coaches, engaging in various activities that enriched their understanding of the sport. The pinnacle of the tour was the highly anticipated match between our U13 Westonbirt players and Bishop Versey's Grammar School. The team approached the game with an impressive professional mindset, showcasing great dedication and teamwork from the outset. Our warm-up session was dynamic and energizing, setting the tone for the match ahead. As the whistle blew, Westonbirt immediately demonstrated their intent by keeping the ball alive through quick, agile movements. Players exhibited exceptional footwork and a keen sense for offloads, which enabled efficient ball retention and clearouts. Defensively, Westonbirt established a robust first line, facing Bishop Versey's formidable ball carriers head-on. Although the opposition sometimes managed to break through our defense, the team's collaborative effort allowed us to regroup and hold them back for the majority of the match. The game unfolded with thrilling energy as Westonbirt scored five remarkable tries. Jacob K. led the charge with two impressive tries, supported by other key contributions from Charlie B., Tom W., and Tom G. Each try showcased the team's creativity and determination on the field. In a nail-biting finish, the match concluded with Westonbirt School putting up a strong fight, but ultimately falling short with a final score of 35 points to Bishop Versey's Grammar School’s 25 points. Despite the result, it was a wonderful display of rugby that entertained all spectators and highlighted the skills and tenacity of our players. Overall, the tour was a tremendous learning experience and an opportunity for personal and team development that will surely benefit our players as they continue to grow in the sport. We look forward to building on this experience in future matches.
