A slow start against fast and skilful Millfield team saw Westonbirt concede 12 points in the opening minutes.

However, with some strong carries from the forwards and starting to play with some structure, the team slowly played themselves back into the match. Michael scored the first try after a mazy run, converted by Az. This gave the team confidence and they attacked again from the kick off. This led to a try from Az.

Despite coming close in the closing stages of the match, the team couldn’t get a further score, which left the first match, in the triangular with Millfield and Taunton tied at 12 points all.

Despite a strong start from Westonbirt, it was Taunton that got on the scoresheet first, with an individual run from deep inside their own half.

Westonbirt responded well and were competitive throughout the match, but never quite able to control the ball. The bigger Taunton pack disrupted the breakdown and made things difficult.

There were some big tackles from the Westonbirt players and everyone worked hard to get back in the game.

Michael K scored our only try, with an interception, but despite everyone’s collective efforts, Taunton managed another three scores to leave the score 26-7.

Well done to the whole squad in assisting well to two different opponents and competing well throughout. A draw and defeat against these two schools is a good indication of the improvements the team have made.
