U14 Rugby v Marling

Westonbirt 8 - 22 Marling

Tries: Michael

Pen: Az

In horrendous rain and wet conditions, Westonbirt battled courageously to contain a big and physical Marking side.

Confidence grew throughout the match with Westonbirt conceding first, before then getting on the scoreboard with a penalty, kicked by Az. Marling then replied with their second try, after some sloppy tackling. But Westonbirt finished the first half on top and should have scored a try of their own, but in slippery conditions the ball was spilt when going over the line.

There was some disruption due to injury in the second half, but despite being a man down for the entire second half, the team continued to battle.

The scrum was dominant throughout, with Jonny, Michael and Tom B running directly and breaking through tackles. Eventually this led to a score from Michael and a comeback seemed possible. However, with the extra man, Marling found space in the wide channels to get the winning score.

A much improved performance from the Westonbirt team, compared to last year’s match between these two teams. But still frustrating to lose a fixture which could potentially have been won, with better execution and a more confident start to the match.

PoM Tom B for his all round display with and without the ball.
